Position Overview: ESG News and Third-Party Data Expert Controversy Watch
Data Strategy is ISS ESG data hub, which collects, catalogues and consolidates environmental and social data on companies across major global indices. We are currently seeking an ESG news and 3rd party data expert to join our team and expand our range of alternative data with the aim of complementing and challenging corporate data. The ideal candidate will have prior experience within the fields of RI, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Sustainability, a firm grounding in data analysis, and proven interest in alternative (non-corporate) data, including from the press, social media, government agencies, satellite imaging and other 3rd party sources. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring ESG related data from a wide variety of sources to support investors and issuers in assessing exposure to reputational, financial, operational and legal risks. The candidate will also collaborate with ISS data analysts and engineers to build, maintain, test and continuously improve our data scraping tools in order to improve efficiencies at capturing quality ESG data.
Main Responsibilities:
Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of a market-leading ESG raw data set that supports data-centric solutions:
- Identify and process ESG-relevant news and 3rd party data on companies;
- Monitor data quality, and report potential data issues and improvements in the workflow process;
- Support data engineers in establishing AI/ML tool aimed at capturing new ESG data in real time;
- Collaborate with the Alternative Data Steward to identify new data sources;
- Participate in the development of analytical reporting.
Required Skills:
Professional skills and qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in analysing ESG and/or alternative data
- Mandatory language either Spanish or Japanese
- Solid research and analytical skills
- Strong academic qualifications (BA in relevant field, such as statistics, data analytics, sustainability, social studies or environmental economics desirable but not required)
- Excellent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent language skills, both written and oral.
