Roles and Responsibilities
A. General Responsibilities
- Accountable for complete patient care and safety in the assigned area/ ward
- Makes a complete & quick assessment of patients on admission / at the beginning of the shifts and documents the same for designated age group
- Endorses patients and assigned tasks to the next shift completely and correctly
- Providing Nursing care as per protocols: including periodic vital recording, administration of IV fluids and medications, and blood transfusions, recording of ECG, maintaining personal hygiene, preparing for /getting done the investigations, etc.
- Demonstrates awareness of potential /actual risks of infection and modes of transmission and follows infection control protocols
- Able to perform care for control & prevention of infection e.g. Isolation care, Care bundles etc
- Maintains continuity of care through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
- Maintains required quantity and storage of medicines, CSSD and medical consumables
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel as required without delay.
- Implements emergency life resuscitative measures according to RRT &BLS protocols.
- Undertakes patient and family education and documents the same.
- Uses equipment safely and efficiently and takes responsibility of the inventory of the unit.
- Facilitates smooth discharge as per the protocols and doctors advice.
- Handles the hospital system for indent, medication and patient information.
- Provide end of life care and death care as per protocol as and when needed
B. Unit Specific Responsibility
- Facilitates smooth process to receive, admit and transfer the patient as per ICU protocols
- Able to care for patient with infusions& sedation drugs
- Able to monitor patient post sedation
- Implements measures as per ACLS protocol
- Provides proper care for the patient in ventilator or Cpap as per protocols
- Operates and updates the patient information system i.e ICIP
- Provide age appropriate care to children admitted in pediatric ICU
- Assess the patient including GCS, pupils, skin assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, ECG monitoring, history taking, escalation of critical lab values & documenting them appropriately in the nursing documents
- Calculate, prepare and administer medications (as per age/weight of patients as prescribed) including emergency medications, IV infusions and routine medications through all routes of medication administration.
- Assists in procedures including insertion of arterial line, central line, chest tube, suturing, intubation, bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy, application of skin traction & application of POP and other orthopaedic equipment, Tracheostomy, PICC line insertion, umbilical catheter insertion, administration of medications through special routes such as ET (surfactants)etc.
- Performs procedures such as IV cannulation, Endotracheal and Tracheostomy suctioning, Ryles tube insertion and feeding, urinary catheter insertion and care, sample collections form investigations, removal of lines as tubes, death care etc.
- Takes responsibility of caring for all equipment and furniture and other related items in the unit realizing the need for cost effective and safe nursing care.
- Operates equipment such as including Mechanical Ventilator, ABG Machine, Cardiac Monitor, Fibro Optic Bronchoscope, Defibrillator, ECG Machine, radiant warmer, incubator, CPAP, phototherapy
Desired Candidate Profile
Must have 5+ years of experience in PICU department with 200 bedded hospital.
Qualification: B.Sc/GNM with valid Registration
Hostel facility Avaialible.
