Job Description
People Management:
The Centre Manager is responsible for hiring and retaining the staff at their Centre. The centre Manager is also responsible for the productivity of the staff at the centre.
The Centre Manager needs to give the staff direction, guidance and the motivation to enable them to perform at their best. The Centre Manager is also responsible to ensure that the teachers work with the children based on Amelio s guidelines and rules. The Centre Manager is the ultimate authority and responsible for the performance and behavior of the staff at the Centre.
Part of the evaluation of the Centre Manager will involve feedback from the staff at the centre about their experience under the Centre Manager leadership.
- Managing the Centre as a profit Centre:
The Centre Manager is responsible to ensure that the Centre turns into a profit centre/ meets revenue targets within the timelines laid down after a discussion between the centre Manager and the management team. This involves keeping costs within budgets and meeting revenue targets.
It is purely the centre Managers discretion to ideate and implement ways to increase admissions (after school care/ afternoon preschools/ summer camp etc.). However, the centre Manager always needs to keep in mind the age group of children Amelio works with (6 months 8 years) and must discuss the idea with the management team so that these ideas could also be taken to other centres.
- Curriculum Management and Oversight:
Amelio follows a theme-based curriculum. The theme calendar for every year will be available with the teachers. A week before the start of the new theme, the centre Manager will receive the theme book from the Corporate team. The theme book will contain a superset of stories, rhymes, art activities, classroom projects, circle time activities etc. that are required for the teachers to make that theme come alive in their classroom.
It is the centre Manager s responsibility to ensure that the teachers read the book, and choose activities from the book. The centre Manager must ensure that the teachers plan the activities and create an environment within the centre that reflects the theme (through danglers, decorating the notice board, costumes etc.)
The centre Manager must also oversee the teachers in their evaluation of the children and present the daily and weekly reports to the parents. Daily reports are given only to those children that stay beyond nap time. For preschool children, teachers prepare a cursory report and hand it over to the centre Manager everyday at noon. The centre Manager shares information with those parents who seek this information from the centre Manager. Weekly reports and Friday bags are given to parents every Friday.
Also, at the end of the term (December, April and August) the parents are given a folder containing pictures of their child, drawings and art work and interesting things the child said and experiences she had. It is the Centre Manager s role to supervise the creation of the term folder, and its handing over to the parent at the end of the term.
The Centre Manager is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Centre. It is the Centre Managers duty to ensure that toys, furniture and appliances are not lost, stolen or damaged. The Centre
Manager is also responsible to maintain up-to-date accounts with a complete knowledge of expenses and receipts.
The Centre Manager will liaise with the bank for deposits and withdrawals and will also coordinate with the Corporate Accountant to update accounts on a weekly basis.
The Centre Manager must ensure that snacks for the children are always available as per the timetable, are fresh and healthy. The centre Manager must also ensure that cleaning supplies, stationery and other items for upkeep of the Centre are procured efficiently and economically to fit into the predetermined budgets, while making no compromises to the safety, health and hygiene for children.
- Communication with Parents and Establishing a Relationship:
The Centre Manager will communicate with parents should they have any questions, queries or problems. Similarly, teachers who want to report anything to the parents (injury/ child s behavior etc.) have to route it through the Centre Manager.
The Centre Manager must maintain a friendly and cordial relationship with the parents, and make the parents feel safe and secure about their child.
Towards this end, the centre Manager could also arrange value-added sessions for parents such as talks by doctors/ child psychologists etc. for the parents.
The Centre Manager is responsible for all regular communication to go out to the parents this involves the fortnightly family letter (at the start of every theme), any specific communication about a child, fees and dues, and general notices for all parents (things to bring for specific activities, reminders etc.)
The Centre Manager will work closely with the Zonal Manager and other members of the management team. Information and guidance will be readily available; however, the Centre Manager will be expected to work autonomously in relation to the day to day management of Centre. The role requires the confidence to make day to day decisions thoughtfully and with a high degree of sensitivity to the needs of children and families.
The Centre Manager will be expected to make recommendations and proposals about service developments and changes to the Centre.
Decisions made by the Centre Manager will directly impact on the day to day quality, availability and flexibility of Day Care for children.
The Centre Manager will exercise discretion about which families may receive a service (in line with the Admissions Policy), and will be expected to interpret policies and procedures thoughtfully, consistently and tactfully.
Resources
- The Centre Manager will be an authorised signatory for orders and staff timesheets to an agreed level of delegation.
- The Centre Manager will be a key holder for the Nursery.
Work Environment
a) Work Demands
The Centre Manager will need to demonstrate effective time and resource management to meet the planned needs of children and families and any anticipated demands that might be reasonably foreseen. The Centre Manager will need to be attentive to a planned timetable whilst retaining the flexibility to be accessible and available to parents and staff. The Centre Manager will need to make judgements about the delegation of tasks and responsibilities to the teachers and other staff in the Nursery.
b) Physical Demands
The work requires normal physical effort. It will involve going on regular rounds to check on the cleanliness, hygiene & activities.
c) Working Conditions
The Centre Manager is mainly based at the Center, but will be expected to attend meetings & training in other places.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience: Teaching, Marketing Field, Counseling etc (0 to 5 years)
Skill Set Required:
- Excellent Communication Skills in English and local language

Qualification:
- Any Graduate/ Post Graduate from a reputed university
