Job Description
Summary
The Manager of Logistics is responsible to build and deliver the Company's domestic eCommerce supply chain strategy including Inbound Freight, Outbound Freight, 3PL Management & Customer Service returns.
Own the day-to-day relationship with Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) on the critical metrics that measure the performance against agreed-upon service standards. Work closely with senior management at LSPs to strike collaborative partnership to ensure competitive rates and freight slabs..
You report to the Head of Supply chain and work closely with on LSP Management to review performance based on service level agreements.
- Maintain service, cost, and operational key performance indicators and dashboards
- Use performance reports from to measure and drive carrier service improvements to consumers
- Initiate, develop, and implement continuous improvement activities to improve operating metrics and performance, specifically related to cost, service, and compliance for domestic freight movement (e.g. mode optimization, carrier selection)
- Identify and implement opportunities to minimize outbound capacity constraints by improving issues in key city markets
Essential Functions
3PL Management
- Collaborate with Demand Planning to prepare yearly/monthly Distribution Center capacity plans and co-ordinate with 3PLs to meet inbound, outbound and storage requirements, including seasonal surges
- Partner with existing 3PLs and / or new 3PLs to implement and achieve contracted or agreed SOPs
- Develop, implement and maintain a logistics dashboard and 3PL performance scorecards to measure and improve performance, quality and costs
- Support 3PLs to meet and exceed Supplier Scorecard requirements to achieve Retailer certification for preferred programs including Amazon Prim
- Provide project management support for on-boarding of any new 3PL providers
Inbound Freight Management
- Manage terminal, carrier & appointed logistics provider, including overseeing the appointment process between freight provider and 3PLs, to avoid delays and cost associated to those delays
- Prepare container activity report from Delivery Order release to date for return of empties. Dispute potential demurrage charges
- Solicit and Evaluate new carrier bids to increase competition and drive down costs without sacrificing delivery and quality
Outbound Freight
- Collaborate with 3PLs and retailers to manage carrier performance including space availability and pick-up timeliness. Support with reporting that allows actionable outcomes
- Review daily productivity versus SOPs. Address underperformance vs the SOP’s daily
- Manage claims process and/or billing issues with carriers
Returns & Customer Service
- Manage 3PL to receive, sort, refurbish or clear returns, including reporting & inventory system updates.
General Duties / Project Management
- Identify internal processes that can reduce Logistics costs beyond rate negotiations with carriers and 3PL’s
- Reduce returns across the entire network by actively reviewing and managing product packaging, 3PL receiving, put away and pick processes and the carrier base, to ensure service is provided with minimal damage
- Conduct invoice auditing & validation
- Oversee cycle counts and arrange and manage annual physical inventory audits with 3PL’s
- Develop liquidation program to support moving obsolete inventory
- Collaborate with internal teams to review and enhance systems and processes, with a heavy focus on IT, to increase service levels, reduce manual workload and reduce costs
Qualifications & Required Experience
- Graduate in Engineering, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain or related field
- Proven track record in direct support of transportation/Transportation operations in a Retail/E-Commerce supply chain environment
- 5+ years’ experience in Ecommerce industry handling Freight & Logistics, 3PL Management
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, set and achieve challenging goals and work under the pressure of deadlines
- Hands-on management style to workflow.
- Demonstrated strong ability to lead and participate effectively in cross-functional teams (internal and external)
- Exceptional verbal, written communication and reporting skills (strong numerical sense & above average Excel skills), including an ability to communicate effectively at an executive level.
